What a Surgical Brow Lift Addresses

The aim is to improve brow position and upper-face balance while preserving an expression that suits the individual anatomy. Consultation may be appropriate for:

• Brows that have descended or sit low in relation to the eyes.
• Uneven brow height or shape that may benefit from surgical repositioning.
• Heaviness at the outer brow that contributes to a tired upper-eye appearance.
• Forehead laxity or pronounced forehead folds when a forehead-based approach is being considered.

Assessment Before Choosing an Approach

The brow position is assessed both at rest and during expression, together with forehead movement, upper-eyelid skin, hairline, skin quality, prior surgery, health, medications, and scar preferences. Brow descent and excess eyelid skin are related but distinct findings, so a brow lift and blepharoplasty should not be treated as interchangeable operations.

Direct Surgical Brow Lift

The direct approach removes a carefully measured section of skin at or just above the upper brow margin and closes the tissues so the brow rests higher. The degree and direction of lift, brow-line scar, anesthesia, and whether another facial operation should be considered depend on the examination and agreed plan.

Forehead Lift and Non-Surgical Alternatives Are Distinct

A forehead lift is a broader operation using an incision near the hairline to elevate forehead and brow tissues; it is not synonymous with a direct brow lift, and availability must be confirmed during consultation. Thread lifting, botulinum toxin, and fillers are separate non-surgical treatments with different mechanisms and limitations. They are not techniques within this surgical treatment and are covered separately by the Beauty Department.

Recovery and Follow-Up

Swelling, bruising, tightness, or temporary discomfort can occur after surgery. Cooling, careful wound care, keeping pressure away from the incisions, temporary activity restrictions, and protection from direct sun may be advised. Follow-up is used to monitor healing, brow position, sensation, and scar development.

Risks and Limitations

Possible risks include bleeding, bruising, infection, delayed wound healing, persistent swelling, pain, visible or raised scars, asymmetry, altered sensation, and renewed brow descent. Surgery cannot stop future aging, and the achievable position is limited by anatomy, tissue quality, facial movement, and safe scar placement.
