Folliculitis

Reduce flare-ups by reducing the trigger.

Folliculitis can be triggered by shaving, friction, sweat, and occlusion. Reducing hair growth and shaving frequency can help lower recurrence for suitable candidates.

Common Triggers

  • Frequent shaving and repeated skin trauma
  • Sweat + friction (gym, tight clothing, heat)
  • Occlusive products and clogged follicles
  • Bacterial overgrowth in irritated follicles

How We Approach It

If the area is actively infected or very inflamed, we may recommend treating the flare first. For suitable candidates, reducing hair density can reduce shaving and ongoing follicle irritation.

For many patients, reducing hair density and shaving can reduce flare-ups. If folliculitis is infectious or severe, medical treatment may be needed alongside or before laser sessions.
A consultation helps determine timing. If the area is very inflamed or infected, we may recommend calming it first for comfort and safety.
